Dear Veterans,

Those of us who have not served
will never fully understand
the sacrifices you've made
both in times of peace and of war.

We will never fully understand
what you were required to do
or how you were able to do it.

We will never fully understand
the depth of your scars.

But what we can offer you is this:

We see you.

We recognize your humanity.

And we send you Love
that is gentle, patient and healing.

With blessings and gratitude,
we ask that you remember you are loved.

Thank you.

"On this night...19 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. Sending love & prayers to all of those still dealing with the aftermath of losing their loved ones, and for those fighting cancer brought on by the tragedy. "

Okay all you reunion goers...Since we packed up the hospitality suite on Saturday night, we neglected to collect your name tags. "Bennie" be a green ship so your mission now is to tuck those puppies into your suitcases and bring them to Nashville to be recycled and reused! For those of you who have not been to a reunion, here's your chance to score an awesome nametag! (they are great for carrying around your hotel room key)

I am not sure who besides myself that is interested in such things, but in the interest of fairness, someone should speak up for all the DDG22 Vietnam Veterans. Do not know from what Dr. Wang died, but I do know he spent a lot of time in the Hospital in Da Nang visiting/treating crew members. I believe you two have the best records on those crew members that have passed away over the years that might be related to “Agent Orange and other herbicides”.

Da Nang was almost our home port during the two deployments while I was the EMO. I spent a lot of time to and from various CVs, rode C-141s from Da Nang to Clark, C-130s from Da Nang to Cubi Point, did time up rivers for Gun Liaison, did a number of boat trips to the Da Nang piers (including departure from DDG22 on December 22, 1970) and I think it was 1969 when we had the Ship’s party at China Beach.  How many days did we sit off shore (as close as possible) on gunfire missions with off shore winds? I remember many times sitting in harbors firing H&I all night.

When one looks at the trivial incidents that qualifies the blue water navy for Service Related Disabilities (see attached 300 ship list), why is DDG22 not on that List. Maybe the subject can be discussed at the coming business meeting.

A message from our fearless leader

USS Jupiter AK-43 / AVS-8

Reunion2008/USSJupiterAK43AVS8.jpg

USS Stoddert Crewman Ron Zorn served aboard Jupiter 3 years before the Stoddert. He and Mike Rigdon have been the hosts for Jupiter reunions since 2000. The Jupiter won 6 Battle Stars in WW II and Korean. Her crew is now so few that future reunions would be impossible, so Ron and Mike requested to be a part of the Stoddert Group, which was approved at the Jacksonville Business Meeting. We are looking forward to future reunions with USS Stoddert.
