ron zorn

President
Ron Zorn 64-67 took over the reunion reins from Lou Turilli 68-69 when it was decided in Washington DC that we would meet in San Diego the following year. He volunteered to make arrangements because San Diego was his home port. He did such an awesome job that he has been arranging reunions ever since. He has become a ninja at traveling to new sites, negiotating hotel arrangements and tours.

mike rigdon

Vice President & Newsletter Editor
Mike Rigdon enlisted in the Navy in 1961, serving on the USS Jupiter, AVS-8 from Oct. 1962 till decommissioning her in June 1964. After attending the 1996 reunion of the USS Jupiter, I have been historian and Newsletter Editor for the ship now for 26 years. I have hosted 8 Jupiter reunions (3 in SD) across the country. Some of my fondest memories have been meeting many true War Heroes during those ship reunions. Ron Zorn has been a close friend and reunion co-host for over 22 years. He served a year ahead of me on the USS Jupiter. That’s how I came to be the Co-Chair for our group. Ron and I decided it would be best to combine our groups as the Jupiter guys are mostly close to 90, or deceased. I began the NL Editor after Joy Patz in 2017.

Storekeeper
Ted Waypa (66-69), Chief Chambers was my CPO for most of my time aboard. Somehow he tracked me down after more than 30 yrs and it was great to reconnect with him and meet again at the first reunion. It's been fantastic to reconnect with old shipmates and meet many more new ones. After the Seattle reunion in 2013, I was glad when asked to take over the ship store when Bill Christensen stepped down. I greatly appreciate all the time and effort put in by our association staff, esp Ron Zorn, and felt this was a little way I could help out. I've been to all the reunions but the Jacksonville one in 2007 due to a wedding, not mine!, and loved every one of them. Well done Herm, I'm proud to have served with you.

Lou Turilli (68-69) served with Herm Chambers aboard the Stoddert and caught wind that he was working on a reunion in early 2005. They corroborated by phone and email during the planning of St. Louis but the fates would not allow them to attend; Turilli's boss was traveling, he had to mind the store and they had White Sox World Series tickets! But they have not missed a reunion since. Carole was dabbling with do-it-yourself websites for her business and offered to throw one together for Herm and the rest is history. Lou & Carole live in a Chicago suburb, have 4 children and 4 grandchildren, a fishing cabin on a beautiful lake in Northern Wisconsin where the retired Lou spends his summers. Carole is now covid retired and trying to balance helping out with the two local grands, spending more time up North and her gardens at home!
